Old City Sweets is a family business dedicated to sharing the rich, authentic flavors of Syrian baklava with the world. Our baklava is lovingly handmade by our mother, an authentic Syrian who brings generations of tradition and expertise to every batch.
Baklava's origins trace back to the ancient Middle East, with early versions appearing in Assyrian and Persian kitchens. Over centuries, the recipe evolved and traveled along trade routes. When the Ottoman Empire expanded into the Levant, baklava became a celebrated dessert in Syria, "the cradle of civilization", where local bakers perfected it with regional ingredients like pistachios and clarified butter. Today, Syrian baklava is renowned for its delicate layers, aromatic flavors, and the unique touch of Syrian hospitality.
